Sail on America’s finest Brigantine, the Sailing Vessel Fritha!

This unique summer program is a live aboard sailing experience on America’s finest Brigantine for four nights and five days!  Northeast Maritime Institute – College of Maritime Science has put together a program that focuses on sail training and island exploration that helps high school aged students realize how to engage in balancing technologies of today and experiential learning of yesteryear.  The program stimulates minds, encourages teamwork, develops self-esteem, and encourages the ability to adapt to ambiguity!

The program operates in Brigantine Fritha’s home waters of Southern New England and offers some of the most beautiful scenery and best sailing in the world. Interesting ports or anchorages such as Buzzard’s Bay, the Elizabeth Islands (Cuttyhunk Island), Vineyard Sound (Vineyard Haven), Nantucket Sound (Nantucket Harbor) and more are only a few hours’ sail from Fritha’s home port of Fairhaven, Massachusetts.  The schedule is determined by wind and weather and is adapted accordingly.

Launched in 1986 in New Zealand and named for the heroine in Paul Gallico’s book, The Snow Goose, the brigantine Fritha was built by traditional methods to unparalleled standards of excellence in materials and craftsmanship.

Fritha operates with a licensed captain and professional crew and your sailing adventure aboard her will create memories that will last a lifetime. Fritha can accommodate up to six passengers and is dramatically outfitted and ready to take you on an exciting, educational adventure.

Learn navigation, marlinspike seamanship and marine ecology and master the lost art of square

rigged sailing. Your time aboard Fritha will be a rich and rewarding educational experience. After

a fun sea and sun soaked day, an exquisitely appointed berth will welcome you to reflect on the experiences of the day and dream about tomorrow’s adventures.

Brigantine Fritha is owned and operated by Northeast Maritime Institute – College of Maritime Science, America’s premier two year college and the only private maritime degree granting educational institutions in the country.
