Description: Assist in the safe and efficient operation of vessel, crew and all passengers as directed by ship’s officers.

 

Duties include but are not limited to, hull, deck, and superstructure preservation, general cleaning, operation of various pieces of deck equipment, small boat operations, securing deck and project equipment, assisting Engineering Dept. as needed, and standing designated watches.

 

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the operation and upkeep of the vessel.

Qualifications: High School Graduate or equivalency certification minimum. Must be able to qualify for ordinance handling certification. Current and applicable STCW certification is required. Merchant Mariners Document endorsed, as Able Bodied Seaman (OSV) is required.  Minimum 2 years’ experience in deck positions while serving as Able Seaman.

Responsible for routine deck operations aboard an OFFSHORE TOW BOAT. (NOT INLAND OR RIVER TUGS)

 

General housekeeping duties and vessel maintenance, which may include cooking, sweeping, mopping, painting, and equipment repair

 

Catching a lines on deck fittings, casting lines free when getting underway, and assist in the navigation of the boat from the deck.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

 

  • A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.

 

  • A valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) is required.

 

  • Must be willing to submit to Drug Screen, Physical, & Background Check.

Responsible for the safe transportation of the assigned barge(s) and for the safety of the cargo, vessel(s) and crew. Responsible for safe docking of ships, (when applicable). Required to perform administrative and supervisory functions. Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of tug and barge.

 

Qualifications:

 

•Must be able to read, speak and understand English over radiotelephone and/or radio.

•Must be able to communicate in English and effectively direct workers in assigning jobs and seeing them through to completion.

•Valid TWIC

•Must have a valid first aid certificate. •Must have valid CPR training.

•Must have a valid HAZWOPER certificate or complete a 24 hour training course within 6 months from date of hire.

•Must be able to direct, fairly evaluate, and correct performance of subordinates.

•Must have valid states driver’s license.

•Valid radio operator’s license.

•Must be able to understand and use information in cargo information cards and material safety data sheets. •Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.

•Valid Coast Guard license, minimum 200 GT near Coastal, with a radar observer endorsement.

•Valid Master or Towing near Coastal endorsement. •Five (5) years of experience towing barges as Master, coastwise on the US West Coast, SE Alaska and Central Alaska.
