Northeast Maritime Institute acquired the 32 Washington Street building in 2000 and has renovated the space to create a beautiful, fully functional facility. The facility is famous for being a place of worship to the first Japanese Diplomat Manjiro Nakahama. The Facility includes three full-service classrooms, two bridge simulators, liquid cargo handling simulators, a Radar and ARPA simulation classroom, gym, and a galley style break area.
The Joshua Slocum Library at Northeast Maritime Institute holds thousands of titles in print books, magazines, videos, trade journals, and online journals. The fiction and non-fiction works are cataloged in our searchable database and available to be checked out. Our materials can provide information for the recreational boater, nautical student, or professional mariner. NMI also has a professional librarian on staff to assist students in all of their information and resource needs.
Lemley Hall Annex
Northeast Maritime Institute dedicated this building at 56 Main Street in honor of maritime safety advocate Captain Norman W. Lemley, USCG-Ret.
The building hosts a variety of maritime safety and survival courses, a seamanship lab, two full-service classrooms, a large safety and survival class room, and multiple study areas.
Integrity Hall Annex
The Integrity Hall Annex is located at 29-31 Center Street. This facility is our academic building for college students and features innovative classrooms, a student commons, and a campus store.
Northeast Maritime Institute believes a “hands on” experience is necessary to develop and practice marine safety. Therefore, NMI provides students with a full installed 30 foot fiberglass lifeboat complete with gravity davits, which is used in our USCG Approved Lifeboatman Proficiency in Survival Craft Course. Students complete practical demonstrations of launching, rowing and recovering the lifeboat in this course.
As a traditional Brigantine, the S/V Fritha serves as a multi-platform asset that facilitates our students and clients needs. Fritha provides the opportunity for hands on training in navigation, marlin-spike seamanship, marine ecology, and the lost art of square rig sailing.
In 2016, the Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation received a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Michael Jamel from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts for the distinct purposes of using the vessel to augment real time training scenarios as sea for Northeast Maritime Institute – College of Maritime Science students and local maritime educational programming. The Breaux Bay Craft hull number 1554, a 65' x 18' aluminum passenger vessel with a 3’11” draft has already become a viable training platform for our College of Maritime Science students.
The vessel was built in 1982 and was transformed into a pleasure craft by the Jampel’s in the early 2000's and has recently received a complete navigational bridge renovation by CMS faculty and students. Navigator has twin 400 HP 1015 Deutz Diesels with an operating speed at 11 knots and topping out at 23 knots.
