Captain Robert Glover

A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, Captain Robert C. Glover, III holds a Master of Steam, Motor or Auxiliary Sail Vessels of Not More Than 1600 Gross Tons, Master of Ocean Towing Vessels, Third Mate of Steam or Motor Vessels of Any Gross Tons Upon Oceans, Radar Observer unlimited and a Commonwealth of Dominica STCW Certificate for Master Rating 3000GT (ITC). Bob served on the board of directors for the American Sail Training Association and Sail Baltimore. Sailing since 1973 aboard Ocean & Harbor Tugs, Salvage Tugs and Tall Ships, Bob has been featured in several publications including: On Tugboats,  WoodenBoatMaritime Life and Traditions, and Ocean Navigator.

Captain Martin Legg

Captain Martin Legg holds an STCW 95 Unlimited Masters license issued by the UK MCA, Marshall Islands, Bahamas and Netherlands, an Higher Nautical Diploma in Nautical Science.

Martin has over 22 years sailing experience aboard a wide variety of deep sea vessels, including bulk and general cargo ships, oil tankers, cruise ships and Dynamic Positioning cable laying/ROV vessels.  Since making the move ashore he has worked as a Marine Surveyor in Savannah, GA. Captain Legg serves as the Director of Education as well as an instructor at NMI.

Captain Susan McDonald

Captain Susan McDonald is a veteran of the Coast Guard where she spent a number of years at the USCG Academy aboard the Barque Eagle. She served as instructor at Boatswainsmate’s School in Yorktown, VA. Her USCG service included time in the Florida Keys maintaining Aids to Navigation from Key Largo to Key West and the Dry Tortugas. She has since served as captain on private yachts and fast ferries. “Captain Sue” brings a wide range of training and teaching experience to Northeast Maritime. She holds a Master 200 Gross Tons Aux. Sail, Near Coastal license with an AB Unlimited / Sail endorsement.

Captain David Medeiros

Captain Dave Medeiros is a retired teacher from the Fairhaven Public Schools. An avid fisherman and charter captain and guide, he holds OUPV, 50 ton, and Tow Assist licensing and is approved to teach the OUPV, 100 ton Upgrade course and First Aid and CPR at NMI.

Captain Thomas Manley

Captain Thomas Manley is the primary instructor for Off-Site program delivery, focusing on the Caribbean Area.  He is responsible for Master’s Courses and Radar Observer.

“Chief” Earl Faunce is a 25 year veteran of the Fairhaven Fire Department from which he retired as Chief. He is reponsible for NMI’s Basic Marine Firefighting, Basic & Advanced Marine Firefighting, First Aid/CPR and assists in coordinating other important safety programs offered by the Institute.

Captain Jeff Sylvia

Captain Jeffrey Sylvia brings many years of experience and teaching to Northeast Maritime Institute. Jeff worked with the United States Navy as a Quarter Master for 22 years, since the age of 17. As a member of the Merchant Marines since 1992, Jeff holds a background in deep sea and research vessels. He also holds a second mate unlimited license, 1600 ton master and a 5000 ton uninspected fishing industry vessel.

Captain David Wood

Captain David Wood served 30 years active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard, serving as Chief Officer on the S/Y Sea Cloud, Commander of the Barque Eagle.  David also served on a number of USCG Cutters during his service time.  David currently holds a Master of Ocean Auxiliary Sail Vessels of Any Gross Tons license with Radar endorsement.  His special teaching assignments include instructing Bridge Resource Management and Celestial Navigation.
