This 8-hour course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 10.480 for Renewal of any radar endorsement.  This one day course is for mariners who already hold a Radar Observer endorsement which is due for renewal. The course involves use of our Transas Radar Simulators.

A preparatory package (provided by NMI when a class is scheduled) is to be completed by the student prior to taking the class.

RFPNW is a USCG approved simulator based program providing the opportunity to complete the STCW Assessment Checkoffs for mariners who wish to obtain their STCW RFPNW Endorsement if they are unable to get these assessments completed at sea.

NMI is approved to conduct the following assessments from the USCG national assessment guidelines for Table A-II/4 of the STCW Code for RFPNW:

This 104 hour, USCG Approved course satisfies the Terrestrial Navigation and Coastal Navigation training requirements for certification as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC).

An applicant who successfully completes the 1-day Visual Communications course with a minimum score of 80% and presents his/her Certificate of Training to a Regional Exam Center within one year of training will:

a) Satisfy the practical signaling examination requirements (flashing light) of 46 CFR 10.401 (h); AND
b) Be considered to have successfully demonstrated the competence Transmit and Receive Information by Visual Signaling of Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code.

Z-Drive Training

Z-Drive Training  - Basic                    

This 16 hour course introduces the student to Z-Drive propulsion systems and basic tug handling techniques. This course involves some classroom time, however, a majority of the time is spent on our tug simulator. Students will operate both Azimuth Stern Drive and Tractor Z-Drive tugs. Z–Drive propulsion theory and practical application, hand eye coordination, docking/undocking, ship approach & ship work, stability & hawser work are just some of the subject areas covered in this course. This course is limited to 2 students in order to maximize simulation time. This course can be custom designed to meet company specific needs.

Z-Drive Training – Advanced 

This 24 hour course is designed to challenge a Z-Drive tug operator with advanced operating techniques.  Propeller control, maneuvering capabilities, ship handling docking & undocking, ship handling direct & indirect force application, advanced barge handling, ship escort techniques, emergency maneuvering due to equipment failure, propulsion failure, and adverse weather conditions on the above simulations are applied. The student will build confidence and experience in advanced techniques prior to the real world application. This course is limited to 2 students in order to maximize simulation application. This course can be custom designed to meet company specific needs.
