This course is designed for those individuals who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of Facility Security Officer as defined in USCG Regulations and the International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS Code). Ship security officers, company security officers, port facility security officers will require training to properly and effectively implement the Code. Training is equally important for Contracting Government or Recognized Security Organization surveyors charged with duties relating to important of the Code.

Following the ISPS Code, the United States promulgated a set of regulations further defining the US implementation of new maritime security standards, MTSA (Maritime Transportation Security Act). The United States went far beyond the international requirements and applied new security measures to domestic vessels as well. While the ISPS Code and USCG regulations have similarities, Facility Security Officers will have to be knowledgeable in both since arriving ships will be most familiar with the international standards.
