Personal Survival Techniques

This course is U.S. Coast Guard Approved and STCW 95 Compliant.
Successful completion of the 15-hour Personal Survival Techniques course will satisfy the Personal Survival training requirements of Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1 of the Seafarers’ Training, Certification Watchkeeping (STCW) Code and 46 CFR 10.205(1)(1).
This course covers many different emergency procedures aboard ship as well as survival techniques when abandoning ship becomes necessary. Students will be trained in the use of survival suits and liferafts as well as other survival gear and personal survival exercises.

Hours: 15
Class days and time: Vary; 8:30 am- 5:00 pm
Prerequisites: Willingness to get into the pool and demonstrate the necessary floating, survival suite and liferaft techniques. Instructors may provided added assistance to those needing it. The ability to swim is not required.
