Fairhaven Facility  

Northeast Maritime Institute is located at 32 Washington Street in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.  Normal operating hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  The facility at Washington Street is located just blocks from the water with a number of lodging options, restaurants, shipyards and marinas within walking distance.

The facility is comprised of a two story historic structure built in the 1800's with a one story addition completed in the 1960's.  Northeast Maritime is currently renovating the space to create a beautiful, functional facility for its school operations.  The facility currently consists of:

Lifeboat Trainer  

The fiberglass lifeboat is 30 feet long and is powered by a diesel engine and is lowered to the water with a MASECO Type 30-22 MK III Gravity Davit and Winch setup.  The lifeboat was built in 1983 meeting USCG approval 160.035.   The lifeboat and davits are mounted to the dock on Pier 3, in the New Bedford harbor, to allow practical experience and lowering into the water. 

This equipment is utilized in our USCG Approved Lifeboatman Proficiency in Survival Craft Course.


Full Mission Bridge Simulator  

The state-of-the-art Transas full mission bridge simulator has seven plasma display screens that offer a life-like, on-ship experience for students. The simulator offers realistic ship movement and destinations. This modern marine simulator allows training in standard procedures and emergencies, developing professional skills and consolidating previously obtained theoretical knowledge. This simulator allows instructors to conduct several courses at NMI including: Ship Handling, Radar Certification & Renewal, Bridge Resource Management, and the Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch. Northeast Maritime is one of only a few private maritime institutions to offer this high-tech simulator.
